Figue and Gigue - 2018/19
Written in 2018-2019, during my freshman year, Fugue and Gigue is my first work for a woodwind ensemble. The piece begins with a fugue subject and is later spun into a gigue, much in the style of the baroque composers, whom I revere. You can hear throughout the piece a great deal of counterpoint (in fact, much of the music I write contains a lot of counterpoint) and imitation. I have had the pleasure of working with Renae Dishman and Graydon Howard since they first began learning the music back in 2019, and it’s been fun bringing in Alex Mortensen on oboe!
Instrumentation
